After an Emergency


Once the immediate threat has passed, recovery begins. Taking the appropriate steps after an emergency helps ensure your safety and supports the university's return to normal operations. 

 

Follow Official Guidance 

  • Wait for official communication before returning to affected areas. 
  • Follow instructions regarding building access and campus operations. 
  • Be aware that hazards may still exist even after the incident.

Check for Safety

  • Remain alert for potential hazards such as: 
    • Damaged buildings
    • Debris or broken glass
    • Downed power lines or utility issues.
  • Avoid entering unsafe areas.
  • Report hazards to university officials 

Check in with Others

  • Account for classmates, co-workers, or roommates.
  • Notify family, supervisors, or friends of your safety
  • Assist others if it is safe to do so. 

Report Damage or Concerns

  • Report injuries, hazards, or property damage through appropriate channels.
  • Follow department or unit reporting procedures.
  • Provide accurate information to support recovery efforts.
