What We Do
The Emergency Management Process
The Office of Emergency Management operates within the four core phases of emergency management mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. To guide strategy, planning, and coordinated actions in support of a safe and resilient campus community.

These are actions taken to prevent hazards or reduce their impact before an incident occurs.
Our office works closely with internal university departments and external partners to identify potential risks and recommend mitigation strategies that enhance the safety and resilience of the campus community.
Preparedness involves planning, training, and exercises conducted to ensure an effective response to emergencies.
Our office collaborates with university departments and external partners to develop and maintain emergency plans, deliver training programs, conduct drills and exercises, and promote readiness across the campus community.
Response involves the immediate actions taken to protect life, property, and the environment during an incident.
Our office leads and coordinates the university’s response to emergencies by activating emergency operations, facilitating communication, and working closely with campus departments, university police, and external first responder agencies such as fire and emergency medical services to ensure a unified and effective response.
Recovery involves restoring operations and services following an incident and supporting the return to normal campus activities.
Our office coordinates recovery efforts by working closely with university departments, campus police, and external partners to assess impacts, restore critical functions, and lead the university’s business continuity and continuity of operations efforts. Through these efforts, we help ensure the university can resume essential functions while strengthening overall resilience following an incident.
